On December 7, 2009, the EPA (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency) signed the final HCFC Allocation and Pre-Charged Products Ban Rules. You can locate these final rules on their website, http://www.epa.gov/ozone/title6/phaseout/rulesoverview.html
Since the Allocation rule has been published before the end of the year, there will be no interruption in the legal production or importation of HCFCs in 2010.
For questions or concerns about these new allocation regulations please call us 888-873-6832. You can also visit our website: http://www.remtec.net/

RemTec International offers free disposal of used refrigerants CFCs, HCFCs, HFCs
in any Condition
RemTec buys R-22 in purities of 98% or higher
RemTec’s Buy Back / Free Disposal Program is a “no hassle” way to dispose of all unwanted CFC, HCFC and HFC refrigerants. There is no pre-qualification of your used refrigerants through laboratory testing, or time consuming segregation of refrigerants, especially high volume refrigerants such as R-22 (HCFC-22), R-410A and R-134a (HFC-134a). RemTec’s program works like this:
- RemTec accepts CFCs, HCFCs and HFCs in any condition, including cross-contaminated mixtures and all refrigerant blends
- RemTec pays for purities higher than 98%. Contact us for a quotation.
- RemTec offers free disposal for mixtures below 98%
- RemTec pays the freight both ways
- RemTec accepts your recovery tanks and will ship back to you within two working days of receipt of your shipment
For larger disposal amounts RemTec will provide D.O.T. certified ½ or 1-ton bulk tanks and ship them to your location. No freight or daily rental fees are charged, however all bulk tanks must be returned to RemTec within 30 days.
RemTec International has established a comprehensive Halocarbon Bank Management Program that buys used refrigerants in any condition and without pre-qualification. RemTec accepts used refrigerants such as:
Complete ODS / GWP Destruction Options
RemTec offers complete and reliable destruction options for Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS), or halocarbons that are high in Global Warming Potential (GWP). In some cases, if recycling is not an option, either because the material cannot be legally used, or it is so badly deteriorated that it is not feasible to reclaim the chemical to industry standards, destruction is the only solution. RemTec International offers safe and reliable destruction options for all ODS and GWP material, including Halons, CFCs, HCFCs and HFCs. Our complete services include:
- Identification of unknown Ozone Depleting or Global Warming Substances by our AHRI certified laboratory.
- On-site removal
- Packaging/handling and shipping in accordance with all local, national and international regulations.
- Material Tracking from origin to destruction
- Refrigerant Destruction performed inside a bonded U.S. Customs secure area.
- Refrigerant Plasma Arc Destruction available with a DRE up to 99.9999%
- Certificate of Destruction upon request
Hydrostatic Testing and Refrigerant Cylinder/Tank Recertification
RemTec International maintains a complete U.S. Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) approved hydrostatic testing and cylinder recertification facility for low-pressure gas cylinders and high-pressure gas cylinders. This facility is an industry leader providing total cylinder refurbishment and cylinder recertification. Our services include:
- Hydrostatic testing with computer-generated test results
- Visual inspection through fiber optic technology
- Cylinder stripping
- Cylinder painting
- Valve removal/insertion/replacement
- Collar replacement
- Internal cleaning: offering various degrees of cleaning including acid cleaning
- Detailed maintenance services
- Reclaiming of gases in accordance with U.S. standards for cylinders containing refrigerants or other halocarbons
RemTec International performs all cylinder/tank recertification services in compliance with the U.S. Department of Transportation and Transport Canada in our state-of-the-art hydrostatic testing facility.

RemTec is a world leader in refrigerant collection, recycling and disposal
RemTec accepts “used” refrigerants in any condition. We handle all shipping documents and even schedule a truck to pick it up. Give RemTec a call and we will take care of everything! RemTec is the leading provider of on-site refrigerant recovery services in the Toledo, Ohio area. We are able to provide refrigerant removal and disposal services for the HVAC, refrigeration, and other industries. As a fully licensed and insured refrigerant disposal company, we offer the convenience of self-contained, on-site recovery. Our state of the art recovery systems and our professional staff will safely and properly dispose all of the refrigerants from anything at your facility.
RemTec collects, recycles and disposes of all types of refrigerants.
A refrigerant is a compound used in a heat cycle that undergoes a phase change from a gas to a liquid and back. The most widely used refrigerants were the halomethanes R-12 and R-22, with R-12 being more common in automotive air conditioning and small refrigerators, and R-22 being used for residential and light commercial air conditioning, refrigerators, and freezers. When CFCs are removed they should be recycled to clean out any contaminants and return it to a usable condition. New production of R-12 ceased in the United States in 1995, and R-22 is to be phased out by 2020. RemTec has the knowledge and capability to recover R-22 and recycle it.
Chlorodifluoromethane or difluoromonochloromethane is a hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC). This colorless gas is better known as HCFC-22, R-22. It was once commonly used as a propellant and in air conditioning applications. R22 is a versatile intermediate in industrial organofluorine chemistry, e.g. as a precursor to tetrafluoroethylene. When CFCs are removed they should be recycled to clean out any contaminants and return it to a usable condition. RemTec has the capability to remove HCFC-22, R-22, from your facility and recycle it. Re-use of recovered HCFC-22 will be permitted until 2030. RemTec has recovered HCFC-22 available for sale.
R-11 Trichlorofluoromethane has other names and brand names: CFC-11, Freon 11, Genetron 11, Forane 11. Some very early systems used R-11 because its relatively high boiling point allows low-pressure systems to be constructed, reducing the mechanical strength required for components. R-11 has the highest ozone depletion potential of any refrigerant. Whichever refrigerant you use, RemTec is capable of recovering it for recycling or destruction.
Trichlorofluoromethane, also called freon-11, CFC-11, or R-11, is a chlorofluorocarbon. It is a colorless, nearly odorless liquid that boils at about room temperature. CFC-11 was a refrigerant used in operating systems before its ban in 1995. CFC-11 was banned due to its high ozone depleting potential. When CFCs are removed they should be recycled to clean out any contaminants and return it to a usable condition. Whichever refrigerant you use, RemTec is capable of recovering it for recycling or destruction.
Dichlorodifluoromethane (CFC-12), usually sold under the brand name Freon-12, is a chlorofluorocarbon halomethane (CFC), used as a refrigerant and aerosol spray propellant. CFC-12 was primarily used in automobiles produced prior to 1994. When CFCs are removed they should be recycled to clean out any contaminants and return it to a usable condition. RemTec can remove, recycle or dispose of CFC-12 for you.
RemTec can help you receive credit for recycling used refrigerants with carbon offset credits.
CFC carbon offsets can be used to compensate for the emissions produced by funding an equivalent carbon dioxide saving somewhere else. A carbon offset is an investment in a project or activity that reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions or sequesters carbon from the atmosphere that is used to compensate for GHG emissions from your own activities. Carbon Credits are purchased and used to “Offset” GHG emissions that companies can not reduce themselves to meet their own carbon emission reduction objectives or compliance. The destruction of certain Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) may qualify for CFC Carbon offsets. RemTec uses its arc plasma destruction technology and experience to properly destroy ODS material. CFC carbon offsetting provides a mechanism to reduce GHG emissions in the most cost-effective and economically-efficient manner.
