The Mobile Recycling Unit [MRU] is a self-contained system designed to recover and reclaim halocarbons (halons and refrigerants) anywhere in the world. The MRU is equipped to carry its own source of electrical power and compressed air so that it can safely recover halocarbons into bulk tanks for long-term storage or transportation. Although the MRU can process a whole range of refrigerants, it is also rated to handle high-pressure agents such as Halon 1301 (R13B1) that are super charged with nitrogen. The processing flow rate for Halon 1301 is 1 kg. (2.205 lbs.) per minute. The MRU tolerates heavy moisture contamination through a unique system that purges moisture from its low temperature cascading refrigeration unit without being dismantled, which significantly reduces maintenance downtime.
The MRU is equipped with three recovery stations that safely recovers a large variety of cylinder shapes and sizes. The collection tank operation can accommodate up to a 1/2-ton bulk cylinder, which is electronically monitored on individual scales. The entire operation is computer controlled, which includes protection from over-pressurizing each storage tank. The operator can also set different storage tank parameters.
The on-site MRU set up procedure involves container leveling, opening of refrigerant system vents, unlocking the integral crane system, mounting the gantry extension (if required), running a lead to the generator/electrical supply and connecting the compressed air line from the generator to the MRU main unit. Since everything is supplied with the MRU unit, set up time is minimal.
The only consumables needed to operate the MRU are diesel fuel for the compressor and generator, and compressed nitrogen for the refrigeration unit. If on-site power is available, the MRU requires 400 volt 3 phase power. An attached outrigger gantry crane system can be assembled in a few minutes and reduces, or eliminates the need for a forklift and other material handling devices.
A "workshop" is located in the main container. A second container is used to transport the electrical generator, air-compressor, hoses, tools and spare parts. The generator is a Diesel Atlas Copco QAS 58JD OF 65KVA OR 52 KW [usable power]. The air compressor is a Diesel Atlas Copco XAS 97, 185CFM.
