A Carbon Credit is an environmental credit that signifies the physical reduction, destruction or prevention of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. Carbon Credits are purchased and used to “Offset” GHG emissions that companies can not reduce themselves to meet their own carbon emission reduction objectives or compliance.
The destruction of certain Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) may qualify for Carbon Credits. RemTec uses its arc plasma destruction technology and experience to properly destroy ODS material. More importantly, it has successfully documented ODS destruction projects to qualify for the issuance of Carbon Credits on the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX). Many companies, governments and other entities purchase these as offsets on the CCX in order to comply with the annual voluntary cap on their greenhouse gas emissions. RemTec can process several small destruction projects together as an Aggregator member of the CCX. Offset projects involving less than 10,000 metric tons of CO2 equivalent per year should be registered and sold through an Offset Aggregator. Call RemTec for more information about this new service.
Although CCX is a voluntary program aimed at GHG reductions, members have made a legally binding emission reduction commitment. Members pledge to reduce their emission annually in accordance to their baseline and the Chicago Climate Exchange Emission Reduction Schedule. RemTec’s ODS destruction program generates surplus credits that can be sold to members of the CCX.
